Causes of common surface defects in cold rolled strip steel

The types and causes of surface defects of cold rolled strip steel are very complicated. Surface defects may occur in every process from steelmaking, hot rolling, cold rolling to user use. Therefore, surface defect control is very important. The next cold rolled steel strip manufacturer - Hualao Steel Strip Co., Ltd. for everyone a simple analysis.

1. Holes

Cause: Material tears create holes. In the rolling process, the cross section of the strip is loose, and the stress exceeds the deformation limit of the material. The thinner the strip, the more obvious the phenomenon. Due to inclusions, bubbles, shrinkage holes, etc., the strip steel will have local cracking with the reduction of thickness in the later rolling process in the casting process.

2. Cracks

Reasons: the strip extension is not uniform in the rolling process, the original defects on the strip surface are not completely removed, and there are non-metallic inclusions or subcutaneous bubbles on the strip. In addition, incorrect roll adjustment and incorrect roll profile design during cold rolling can also lead to cracks, such as excessive tension and improper chemical composition.

3. Pits

Reason: roll surface defects or foreign bodies are formed when rolling into the strip steel surface falls off. One side of the thin strip is concave and the other is convex.

4. Roll printing

Reason: the hardness of the roll surface is not enough, hard impurities such as metal chips are easy to stick to the roll surface. There may also be high strength of strip steel, careless operation, roll surface spalling, resulting in roll marks. Such defects are easy to identify and can be promptly eliminated.

5. Scratches

Reason: the guide plate of the mill is rough and uneven. Or, during the winding process, the strip rubs against a foreign object.
