Since entering the industry in 2017, I’ve often heard many people—traders and downstream manufacturers—wondering: Where has all this strip steel (hot‑rolled strip steel, hereafter referred to as “strip steel”) gone? Despite producing such large volumes every day, steel mills never struggle to sell; everyone keeps saying that one brand or another of strip steel is hard to work with, yet it still sells out—often at market prices. Some sales representatives, too, frequently complain that strip steel is difficult to move, but by the time they try to offload it, the goods have already been snapped up, whether destined for the open market or for downstream customers.
